Before you get to organizing, it’s important to evaluate what you have. The best way to do this is by taking out all your clothes and thinking about when you last wore an item. If you haven’t worn an item for a month or longer, you should think about donating it. The key to having an organizing closet is only keeping the clothes you have in constant rotation. If you have clothes that are seasonal consider keeping them in storage until you need them. 

Color-Coding

When you take a glance at your closet, what do you notice? Do you see clothes in many colors and patterns? If just looking into your closet stress you out, try color-coding for a sleek and chic look. By color-coding your clothes you can easily find what you need to pair together and make an outfit. If you’re someone who doesn’t wear a lot of colors, you can do a monochromatic color scale from black, brown, grey, to white. 

Containers and Bins

Now that your hanging clothes are organized, it’s time to tackle your shelves. Storing clothes on wooden shelves can be harmful in the long run. For example, if you fold your clothes on shelves, they can easily get messy and it can be harder to visualize what you have. We instead recommend using foldable cloth bins and storing your clothes upright. If you fold your clothes into fourths, you can stand the clothing stacks up on their side so you can see all of your folded clothes at the same time!
